Beram Kayal?

With the first week of January now gone and transfer rumours everywhere it seems a good time to take a quick look at where Norwich City are, right now.

It's no secret that Chris Hughton wants another striker and loads of names are being bandied about.

The names that refuse to go away are Danny Graham, Craig Mackail-Smith and Gary Hooper.

I think that Graham would make me the happiest although Hooper is an intriguing one - could he cut it in the Premier League like Jelavic has?

This morning's Daily Mail has us again linked with Celtic midfielder, Beram Kayal.

This could of course be the reason that Hughton was watching Celtic last week and not Hooper at all.

Kayal is 24 and an Israeli international and described as a mostly defensive midfield player, but also seems to be a tough tackling player with plenty of stamina.

There may actually be more to this with the player's uncle quoted as saying:

"It`s no secret that the Norwich manager was in Glasgow the other night and we`ll know in the coming days just how serious they are about wanting him.'

This seems to be the story with the most substance at the moment. Maybe Hughton is looking to get Kayal and Hooper, that would be great.

More on this when we have it...

Don't forget, our Chief Executive was at Celtic before he came to Norwich. I guess he would have the contacts to be able to pull any requisite strings that may need it???

I just don't see Hooper joining you, sorry, but Kayal isn't a regular in the team and if an offer comes in I am sure we would consider it. We recently sold another player who was struggling to get a game - Ki - to Swansea and he is doing well there by all accounts, but the fee was around £6m so I would expect similar. We rejected a bid of £7m last year for Hooper (so assume even that the minimum fee we would have accepted was £8m), and this season he is performing well, including in the Champion's League, so I think his price has risen. That means you'd be looking at £10m+ and I just don't think you would spend that?
