'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Newcastle Loss - Chris Hughton Reaction

"I was disappointed with the goal we conceded but it was the type of one we saw them score earlier in the week," he said. "That type of movement and that type of space. I thought we showed enough quality in our possession today. Albeit we didn`t have great chances, but Andrew Surman had arguably the best chance of the game - apart from the penalty. I felt we had enough about us to get something.

"We are on the back of four good performances and having been at Newcastle for the period of time I was I know how difficult it is to get a result. Perhaps this wouldn`t have been one of Newcastle`s better performances here, but it was still going to be difficult to get a result. But with that type of spirit and that type of commitment, I believe the first win will not be too far away."

'We knew we were going to come up against a Newcastle team that has great quality, so there is probably a bit of frustration that we conceded the goal we did,' he told Sky Sports.

'But we stuck in there, showed a lot of spirit and determination, and we looked to create opportunities ourselves.

'That has probably been our problem. The way that we have been playing and the determination that we have shown has been good, and every game apart from the first one of the season has been tight.

'It is just our work in the final third and having that little bit of fortune, and possibly we need a penalty to go our way or a deflected goal or an OG.

'We are certainly playing the right way, pushing teams and trying to get those elusive goals, and I am sure that if we keep playing the same way they will come.

"We`ve tightened up but we need to find the right formula to give us the goals to win football matches. The win might come when we least expect it.

"I must mention our supporters. They really made themselves heard, which is not easy up here and they were superb for us today."
