McNally - Holt Deserved New Contract
City CEO David McNally appears to have moved on from the uncomfortable discussions that he, Grant Holt and his agent had back in the summer by declaring that Holt fully deserves his new contract.
Speaking to the official site McNally said, "During the last close season we were not helped by the uncertainty over the position of our football manager and this developed at a time when we were about to re-negotiate contracts for a number of players, including Grant.
"Following weeks of speculation in the summer, Paul Lambert left the Club and Chris Hughton replaced him. Chris was clear from day one that Grant Holt was a big part of his NCFC plans. From here, we agreed a new contract in a matter of days, a contract that in my opinion Grant Holt fully deserves."
Some fans may wonder whether McNally said that last piece whilst holding a typically grimaced expression, as the rumour is that he played a tough game with Holt's contract negotiations, and was concerned about his age.
McNally also went on to suggest that the decision of whether to offer Holt a new contract wasn't just down to him.
"It really is important to remember how your football club operates. The Board agree the strategy, the Chief Executive runs the business and the football manager is in control of football matters."
Regardless of how the contract got signed or who made the decision, let's all hope that Holt rediscovers his form from last season, and quickly.
