Hughton on Bassong Signing

As reported yesterday, Cameroon international, Sébastien Bassong has joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur.

Centre-back Bassong, who is still only 26, played at Newcastle whilst Hughton was on the coaching staff, before sealing an £8m switch to Spurs in 2009.

He has 15 caps for Cameroon, as well as 2 French under-21 caps.

Bassong has been speaking to the press of his delight at joining the club, "I am really delighted to join the club," he told the club`s website. "It`s a really good thing for me and I am really happy and looking forward to playing for the team.

"Last year Norwich City impressed me a lot when I came to play here, the way they did well in the league and by the fact they kept all those players. They have a good team, a strong team with a good character and I think there is quality in this team - and Chris Hughton came to this team. So all of that means I wanted to be part of it, to the challenge here. I am looking forward to working with him and for him."

Chris Hughton was also clearly delighted to have got his man, "Sebastien is a player that I have known well since my time at Newcastle and I`m delighted to have brought in someone with the Premier League experience he has got. He will give us power and pace at the back and again add to the competition in the squad."

Welcome to Norwich City, Sébastien Bassong.

On his day he can be very, very good but then he loses concentration and undoes everything. He was never really going to make it at Spurs but I wish him well.

At last, there is a club out there willing to buy our deadwood and rubbish players. Actually to be honest, he isn't bad, just isn't top4 quality. He needs a decent run of games to get his confidence back. Moving to Spurs was a mistake to his career. GL to him.

He will show his true wortgh at NCFC, a player does not become a bad player overnight, its a management problem usually..CH will put this right.
