Lazio's 27-year-old Spanish left back officially became a City player tonight as he joined on a season long loan move.
Hughton said: 'I'm absolutely delighted to be bringing in somebody of Javier's quality.
'It gives us real competition in the squad, and for me an important factor was the fact that he has played in the Premier League before.
'He has played in La Liga, Serie A, and the Premier League, so he is a player of real experience,' Hughton told the official website.
Whilst Hughton also confirmed that he would be looking to loan out one of either Jed Steer or Declan Rudd, with Blackburn's Mark Bunn expected to be the man to act as Ruddy's back up.
The Daily Mail are also reporting that Hughton is considering a move for Austrian International, Aleksandar Dragović. The 21-year-old centre back plays in Switzerland for FC Basel.
Dragović has a host of clubs tracking him including Arsenal, Fulham and Inter Milan, so it is a surprise seeing him linked to City. It would however be a fantastic signing if the club pulls it off.
