Butterfield Finalises City Switch

England under-21 midfielder Jacob Butterfield has this afternoon finalised his switch from Barnsley.

Butterfield is currently recovering from a cruciate knee injury suffered in December last year, but his form in the first half of the season was enough to convince Hughton that he would add something to the squad.

'He caught my eye not only last season, but in previous seasons. His form last year was a very good period for him and for anybody who didn't know about him before, he certainly would've caught their eye last season.'

Capable of the spectacular, Butterfield is, like Anthony Pilkington, naturally two-footed. He has performed well in an attacking midfield role and is renowned for his long-range shooting.

Butterfield spoke to the press earlier today and was very complimentary about the new City manager.

'I'm absolutely delighted, Norwich is a big club and (they) did fantastic in the Premier League last season and after speaking to Chris (Hughton) about how much he wanted to bring me here to the club he really sold it to me,' Butterfield told the club's club's official website.

'I'm really looking forward to getting on now and working under the gaffer. I spoke to him several times and was really impressed with him; his knowledge of football is second to none.

'It's a big club and everyone knows that, the training ground is lovely and Carrow Road is a great stadium. I've met a lot of lovely people already and I'm delighted to have signed.'

With comments like those, it wont take long before the fans take to the Bradford born Butterfield.

We look forward to seeing him in action in pre-season.

sounds like a real prospect, we're starting to get quality in depth in the mid-field... now can we have another defender please..!
Beast of Bondleigh
His comment on English football being stuck in the 40's impressed me. This is someone that want to learn from the best to become the best. Exactly the attitude we need at the club!
Clwyd
Agree Clwyd, let's hope he has the ability and consistency to back this up. If he's half what Howson is, I'll be happy.
