Getting the Big Calls Right

Another day, another Grant Holt whisper. If we get £6million for the man it will be yet another decision those behind the scenes have got right this summer.

There has been a spate of good decisions and news over the past few weeks in fact. It feels like the summer has dropped off a little after its manic start, but signing three players on extended contracts ain`t too shabby. They all deserve it too.

Ruddy has grown into a monster of a keeper. He`s vocal and a good shot stopper. And he`s young. Martin too has been arguably our most consistent performer for the past few seasons and touted as captain. The fact that he`s been our best centre-half is the biggest compliment you can give the full-back. As for Surman, well he`s won the hearts of the ladies and turned many a player and fan alike. Ahem.

And, lest we forget, we let go of a club legend too. The right decision in my mind again; he rarely gets through 90 minutes, and if he does he`s had to have a chat or three with the physio. You would assume we have a replacement in the wings, as Mad Marc has a penchant for the physio table too.

But still people complain we`re not doing enough at the minute. We were spoiled, well I`m not sure spoiled is the right word, but.., in the first month of post-season. And the board got that all right too. Even the going to tribunal instead of accepting compensation could be a good move. Then there`s the replacement which was almost universally accepted. We *have* been spoiled.

It hasn`t all been plain sailing and clearly stuff has been happening behind closed doors. Feathers are being ruffled by McNasty, and his style hasn`t gone down well with everyone. If we knew about them maybe we wouldn`t have such admiration for the man but all we should really care about is the results.

The next big decision could be on its way, or maybe already has arrived, if we`re to believe the rumours. Given their current form, you`d back them to get it right.
