West Ham Make New Holt Offer

A report in The Sun today suggests that West Ham have come back with a 3rd offer for City top scorer Grant Holt.

The deal is said to be worth up to £5.5m for the 17-goal man, with £2m of that dependent upon appearances.

Interestingly the poll on the site suggests that the vast majority of City fans (over 70%) think that Holt is worthy of a new 3 year contract, which would probably tempt him to stay.

However, with a new offer on the table of up to £5.5m, the club may find it very tempting to cash in on the 31 year old as they look to rebuild in the Chris Hughton era.

Holt too would stand to make a great deal from any signing on fee, should the club decide to accept the offer.

David McNally now has a difficult job in weighing up the pro's and con's of accepting West Ham's new offer, with Holt enjoying cult status despite his recent 'disagreements' with the club.

So it is all about the money !

Isn't it always..!? It would make a nice change to actually make a profit on one of our players - we normally give them away!

I would like GH to stay , but if he doesn't then I would want the the £5.5m up front , so we have got some cash to replace him

First Im one of the 70%, but thats probably taken as read by now. Second what an appalling offer from West Ham. 3.5 million with anorher two depending on appearances????? Forget the money on this one for a moment. GH will likely be a 10 - 15 goaler again next season. How covenient it would be for the hammers to have him as a bit part player. They keep him low gamed and we loose 2 million and at least ten goals. It is likely they see us as must win fixtures. God forbid we fall into that trap!!!! Meanwhile, lovely tweet from the big man regarding Surmans contract. Bizaar for a man supposedly on his way out of the door.

I may be underrating Holt (I've done so before), but I wouldn't be surprised if he scores less than 10 next year... however, I do think he'd score more for us than someone else. It's a tough one but on balance I'd sell for £5m upfront.

Holts tweet re Surman and suggestions he is even more upset....... "Where do they get these stories? Didnt they read my tweet yesterday?"

Just to provide both sides i was one of those who wouldn't have given him the extra year. Reason being because as he's 31 you have to start looking for a younger long term replacement. Once you've found him you then want to get him involved, learning and able to take over. So if in a years time he's suddenly good enough to play week in, week out and keep Holty from being a first team starter every week, it's an unnecessary year's wages to pay if we can't unload him at 33. Worth the money for what he's done but as a club, financially, it's not worth it.

WHU have upped their bid to £6m according to The Pinkun. Time to cash in methinks, too much has gone on now.
