Calm Down Dear - There's Life After Lambert

Amid the despair, some things have been overlooked in this Lambert debacle.

Many are questioning the fact that he is a derisory fifth or sixth choice. Probably not true. There were some saying Lambert and his 'representatives` (whoever, and whatever they are) had spoken to Randy Lerner and his 'representatives` (WaWTA) over two weeks ago. They were then presumably rebuffed by McNally and co., and they would have wanted to ensure they had options if Lambert fell through. Hence the speaking to Ole Gunnar and Martinez. We can`t really grumble too much about them tapping him up, he wouldn`t be here at all if we hadn`t.

So too are Villa a bigger club than us. While we were scrapping and sliding our way into League One, Villa were consistently in and around the European places. They spent more on one player than our squad is worth. Randy Lerner will have learnt from this McLeish season too; he will need to back the manager a bit more, just not as much as O`Neill unreasonably wanted. It is a good job to build up and it is a step up, no matter what we like to think.

The apocalypse, this is not. We`re going to be linked with managers we would never have done before, and in a good way. Culverhouse will be off though, Lambert`s said himself he`s nothing without him. Will Malky want to stay on at the Redbirds now that he can spend some money for a year or so? Tough call for him. I wouldn`t be surprised if McNally started drawing up a shortlist already just in case.

The one downside is Swansea will be possibly competing directly with us, although they`re reportedly looking abroad to continue on the Swanselona brand. So we could be OK with that one too.

Three years for a manager in football is a long time. So if, as it is increasingly more likely, he does go, let`s not have a meltdown, eh? Plenty more managers in the sea, it`s still Norwich city we follow, we`re still in a great position moving in the right direction.

So calm down dear.

Good article Jack and very level headed. As a Villa fan i'd love PL to come to us if it happens as I believe he is a good fit for our club. At the same time I really like and admire NC for what they've achieved over the past few years and I know you'll get a good manager and keep moving forward. Good luck NC.

From a Villa fan who remembers Dwight Yorke scoring his first league goal against Norwich and Derek Mountfield scoring 2 ogs and being sent off twice in 2 seasons against NCFC I am really happy that you guys are back where you belong. I will be delighted if we get PL and wish you all the luck in your new manager search. UTV!

Pretty crappy situation all round. Should PL come to Villa he will be doing to you what he did to Colchester. But this is the Villa we are talking about and we have an uncanny ability to f*** up a done deal. I think we are all aware that he is a man looking to make progress in the game and as much as Villa has potential to be a huge club again, there are still a couple of levels above us that would indicate he will do to us what he had done to you and Colchester. We both seem to have Chairmen/Chairwomen that have good moral ethics. We both have good supporter bases that take no sh11te. I seem to recall you lot red carding your previous Chairman not long ago with the same venom we had for Alex McLeish. Should PL join our club then all is not lost. Poyet, Hughton, McKay would all be good fits for your club. Personally I hope that we do have Lambert, you have Hughton and that you finish just the one place behind us next season in the top 6. Up the Villa. Prepared. The 19th minute.

Good article, Jack. However, my be is that McNally will have had candidates lined up for a couple of weeks. I think that NCFC fans are going to have a ball this closed season. Let's face it, getting to the Prem was more exciting (if less satisfying) than actually being there. Now we have the added adrenaline rush of waiting with baited breath to discover who the new manager is, and then trying to gauge his worth by the players that he sells and brings in. How exciting does it get? The biggest nerve jangler will be the new manager: with PL, we will all have believed that Premiership survival was - at the very least - likely. Now...................... Me timbers are veritably shivering at the mere thought of it. Oh, the anticipation! Hey, ho! OTBC

I could do without the excitement. You may wish to recall that we had a long run of c**p managers before PL and just may have to endure some more before another great manager comes around. I just wanted a manager in place who brought in players early and relaxation before another tiring season.

Hope you guys get a good manager and get the backing from the board.
Green Villan
same as Green, hope you get a good replacement, just avoid McLeish at ALL costs!

And Jack is 100% correct, he was first choice but obviously they had to speak to others in case they couldn't get Lambert
