'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Someone's ahead of themselves

Sidestepping the slow-movers around town I noticed the news boards saying something about Johnson and something about England call ups. Optimistic, eh?

People will say 'But he's ran the most miles in the LEEEAGUE!?'. Unfortunately for him he hasn't quite mastered the ability to control the power he puts through the ball. He'll smash it at people once and leave them short the next. Granted his cross for the fourth was a beaut. Dean Whitehead runs a lot but doesn't make him a good player, does it now?

He gets stuck in and whatnot, but England call up? I'm not convinced. You can't argue with his commitment, as most of us would agree he's 'done brilliant for us since he's come in', but he hasn't got the quality to get called up if we're honest.

It seems unfair to compare him to Scott Parker, but if he wants to talk up his England chances we could. Parker breaks up and controls everything and everyone. Johnson on the other hand allows Fox and Patches O'Hoolahan to try control the game by simple roughing people up. Maybe Barry would be a better comparison, but that would make it a little tougher to make my point.

If Patches can't get a call up to the ROI squad then it seems almost a travesty if Johnson got one to the England squad. Hopefully Stevie G will return for Liverpool in good enough form so we can all forget about this whole thing. Although I guess it would be nice to provide England with one squad player this season, I'd rather it be Fox of course.

(After last week's prediction of a nil-nil, I'm going for a 4-0 drubbing to Everton...)

Nothing wrong with ambition.

I guess for many of us, the opportunity of seeing a current City player donning England kit and turning out for the national side at Wembley would be quite thrilling. It's all of us by proxy, isn't it. Morison and Crofts for Wales; Hoolahoop and even Tierney and (possibly) Pilks for ROI; and Russell Martin for the Scots: fantastic and well deserved (especially if Wes does get the call-up). But, seriously, good as our lads are as a squad, are any of them truly England quality? Well - maybe one! If Fabio really needs a big, old-fashioned, hold up the ball and thump 'em centre forward - is there anyone(English) in the country currently doing that job than Grant Holt? Nah - way too far-fetched. On the other hand...............

johnson would do well in the England team, couldnt be any worse than the current shower of *****e that play for them. If he did get in i would have to support England again.
