Silly season is well and truly underway

Silly season is well and truly underway. We can officially read too much into friendlies after paying too much to get into them and still have no clearer an idea of what our starting XI will look like.

But, as every manager stresses, "it`s not about the result." Remember Wigan at home? Granted it was Wigan away from the DW, but we still looked like world beaters. We followed it up with that game against Colchester.

Formation-wise, there is also little for us to read into. Pre-season is all about running. And running. And running some more. Getting as many players as much time to run and get the odd touch of a football is more important than deciding upon what will be the best way forward for the season.

That`s what the ability to shut Colney`s gates is for.

Settling the new boys in is another added bonus, and that comes from nothing more than cramming more time in together on the pitch. More importantly, it`s a chance for us all to get on each of the new boy's backs and proclaim them as not good enough and that we should get Huckerby back. And that we should never have let Malky go.

Seeing Vaughan, Pilkington and co reaching top gear fitness-wise and remembering they play in yellow now and then maintaining it for the next week is all I`m looking for.

No frills, no twinges, nothing.
