My NCFC: Yoda

My NCFC: Yoda
Next up in 'My NCFC', where we interview Vital Norwich members and learn a little bit more about our fellow City supporters, is Yoda...

How did you become a City fan?
I have been a City fan since I was about 12. Previous to that I was mad on Leeds and several of my mates were Liverpool - good God even the thought of it makes me feel nauseous!

Thankfully the old chap recognised the errors in my ways, took me along to Carrow Road and that was that!

What/when was your first game?
My first game that I actually remember was around 1974 I think. We played Man Utd and it was the start of many great days as a kid standing on my milk crate in the old South Stand.

What is your most memorable moment?
Now that is difficult. I can remember the night we beat Man Utd 1-0 to get to Wembley in '75, the atmosphere was incredible - real hairs on the back of your neck stuff.

However if I was to pick one game it would have to be Villa when John Polston scored the only goal of the game. At that moment it looked a very real possibility that Norwich City were going to win the very first Premier League - sadly as we all know it wasn't to be but on that night the world was our oyster!

How many games do you get to?
I don't get to that many games these days after giving up my season ticket when my two lads turned 17 as I could no longer afford to pay for all three.

Since then I've found golf which means I pick and choose games but I still get that butterfly feeling come 3pm on a Saturday.

Which (if any) Norwich players have you met?
I've not really met any Norwich players over the years, although I spent about an hour chatting to Ian Mellor at a holiday camp. He had long since stopped playing and was chuffed that somebody actually recognised him!

I have met Delia a few times (I do electrical work for her and MWJ). Back in '97, I was about to get married at Carrow Road and wanted to wear the new Bruce Oldfield shirt. Delia and her people made sure that I had one on the day several weeks before they went on sale; I kept it on all day and at the reception so that's my claim to fame, being the first fan to wear that shirt!

Who is your favourite current player?
I'd have to go for Mr dependable, Adam Drury.

Who is your favourite all-time player?
My favorite all time player would have to be Darren Huckerby. Phil Boyer would run him close, however I can't think of another player who generated the kind of excitement and anticipation you felt walking into the ground...OH HUCKERBY!!!

What are your hopes for the coming season?
I feel really confident about the coming season. Given the money we had to spend Lambert seems to have done really well and it's great to have a manager who is able to attract decent players. My prediction? Fifth.

What is your all time Canary eleven?
My all time eleven would be Keelan, Culverhouse, Bowen, Bruce, Watson, Crook, Neighbour, Holt, Huckerby, Boyer, Drinkell.

What is the best thing about being a Norwich City supporter?
The best thing about being a City fan? The superb fan-base which given our size is second to none. I love the fact that we play in yella & green, and our stadium is modern but still has bags of character.

If you could change one thing about the club, what would it be?
A year ago the list would have been enormous, but things are looking up there's no doubt about that. Everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction and hopefully the Premier League isn't as far away as we thought. More money would help of course!
