Now with Kilmarnock hes on our Radar for January.

A Middlesbrough FC starlet saw his mate locked up after they kicked a defenceless clubber in a “horrifying” drunken street attack.

Academy midfielder Jordan Jones, 19, and pal Aaron Dixon, 20, followed and assaulted their victim after trouble flared in a nightclub, the Middlesbrough Gazette reported.

Jones watched former care worker Dixon repeatedly stamp on the victim’s “essentially lifeless” body on the ground, a court heard.

Teesside’s top judge told Jones, who made his first team debut with Boro in January: “Many would give their eye teeth to be in your position, to have your talent and your skill.

“But of course that comes with a price, the knowledge that those younger than you look up to you.

“They will look up to you to set an example. When you fail to set an example you will have to bear the burden of extra punishment.”

Jones and Dixon stood side by side in the dock at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

They got into a taxi to pursue a man and “sort him out” after he clashed with Jones in the Aruba nightclub in Redcar.

The victim ended up lying prone on Redcar high street, where an enraged Dixon laid into him at 4am on March 30.

Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC told Jones: “You stood by doing absolutely nothing, almost with your hands in your pockets.

“You kicked at him once, in a fairly ineffectual manner.

“You essentially have got your friend Dixon into this.

“It was your argument. You could have stopped this. You could have reined him back. But you didn’t.

“You’ve caused your friend to be locked up.”

He said immediate custody was “unavoidable” for Dixon, passing a 20-month sentence for his more serious crime.

Jones was given a four-month custodial sentence suspended for two years, with 120 hours’ unpaid work, and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation with £1,800 costs.

Judge Bourne-Arton, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, told the two: “Anybody who watched the closed circuit television of the incident would have been horrified at what you did.”

It was accepted they launched the attack as a result of the victim’s bad behaviour in the nightclub.

The two defendants said he was violent and abusive, and the judge said he behaved “in an utterly reprehensible fashion”.

Prosecutor David Crook said the two went after the victim over “Mr Jones’ gripe”.

Dixon was seen on CCTV footage delivering three to four stamps then dragging the victim’s body around the corner.

The injured man managed to get up and stagger away with “relatively minor injuries” - a broken index finger and cuts to his left hand.

He had little memory of the events.

His assailants stayed in the area, where they were arrested. Dixon immediately took the blame.

Dixon, of Pennine Crescent, Redcar, admitted attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent.

Former Sacred Heart pupil Jones, of High Street, Marske, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, his first conviction.

The judge said they were immediately apologetic, remorseful, confessed what they’d done and were of previous good character.

Mark Haslam, defending Jones, said: “He has much to lose, indeed everything to lose.”

He said Jones had “gainful employment which rewards him well”, though the football club was never mentioned directly in the court hearing.

He added Jones felt bitter remorse, regret and shame for the “totally unacceptable and unsavoury episode”.

Jones initially didn’t respond to the victim’s behaviour but Dixon encouraged him, and he made poor decisions and acted out of character while drunk.

Nigel Soppitt, representing Dixon, said his “loutish” behaviour came after great provocation.

He said the otherwise “thoroughly decent young man” was shocked and appalled at what he’d done.

Dixon had a supportive family and a partner pregnant with his first child, he had stopped excessive drinking and resigned from his job at a care home to spare them bad publicity.

He accepted that he deserved prison but it would have a profound effect on him, added Mr Soppitt.

Middlesbrough Football Club declined to comment.

Good spot fanforlife.

I know people do stupid things when they are young but this is too far for my liking.

Trusting the club will do their homework on all our signings.

Back in the day I was a well known lively Barclay Boy and was very recognisable to a great many...However to hear that some arsehole thinks its the norm to stamp on another human beings head and is acceptable or to stand and watch another doing it is beyond belief..even footie labeled hooligans have a code of conduct including only scrapping with others who were up for it and not innocent supporters nearbye! (Sheffield Recently springs to mind)

Both should have been jailed...Jones wasnt because hes a football player is bollox!

We need a striker 1st!

We have a lot of driving ban players at Norwich but this is horrible stay up in Scotland.

Everybody makes mistakes, especially under the influence. We should give everyone at least one chance to learn from a bad mistake.

And meanwhile we require two additional strikers and plenty of ball for them to operate with.
