The Norwich Midfield Is Looking Light Now
Daniel Farke will have to do without Moritz Leitner and Nelson Oliveira as Norwich City head to Oakwell tonight to take on a struggling Barnsley side desperate for points, as his own side look to get back to winning ways.
The news out of Colney yesterday was that Leitner will be out for around four weeks with a hamstring injury and that Nelson Oliveira will also miss out due to a calf injury.
That isn`t perhaps the worst news in the world after a rather abject performance from the Portuguese firebrand at Hull. He`s likely to miss a couple of weeks.
That does of course mean another chance is likely to be given to Dennis Srbeny as the young German looks to settle into life in a new country and the Championship with all the pressure on his shoulders. If he doesn`t start then Marley Watkins would probably replace Oliveira.
The midfield looks very short of options at the moment with Tom Trybull out for a couple more weeks yet, Leitner missing with his hamstring and Alex Tettey`s knees creaking under the strain.
Tettey is also one booking away from another suspension with Harrison Reed suffering from the illness that saw Christoph Zimmermann miss out against Hull. Whether Zim is able to play tonight is not yet known but Sean Raggett will travel with the squad, just in case.
Assuming Reed and Tettey can`t make it, there are of course options. James Maddison could drop back into a deeper role, allowing Wes Hoolahan or even the fabled Marcus Edwards to play at number 10 - my money is on Wes, if that happens.
Mario Vrancic is another option but he`s not exactly a ball winner. Not so bad when he`s got it as he can pass it about well but not a Reed or Tettey type of player.
Other than that, we`re okay. It`ll be interesting to see what happens with the team selection.
The opposition appear to have unearthed a young star in the making in the form of Oli McBurnie. The 21 year old striker has 5 goals in 6 games since joining on loan from Swansea in January. He`s definitely one to watch.
