Tettey In Contract Talks With Norwich
Alex Tettey`s presence has often been overlooked in the engine room of the Norwich City team.
He does the dirty work, the running, the covering, the taking a yellow for his team when needed (which is quite often) and rarely takes the limelight. That`s not to say he hasn`t had his moments.
Remember the "toe punt" winner at Old Trafford? How about arguably the best volley you`ll ever see, against Sunderland at Carrow Road? Big moments for a big player in the yellow and green of Norwich City.
Alex started the season out of the team, with Daniel Farke telling him in the summer that he wanted to "take a different direction" with his midfield.
The season started badly and Tettey watched on as City reached the first international break in trouble following a 4-0 drubbing at Millwall. An infamous watershed moment.
What followed was the return of Timm Klose, after injury, and Tettey being restored to the midfield alongside new boy Tom Trybull. The results were instant.
Tettey has started eleven league matches this season. Those eleven matches have ended in nine wins, one draw and one loss. That is an average of 2.55 points per game. The team have only conceded four goals with Alex in the side too.
There`s been plenty of talk on social media about him staying but most of us were expecting the combative midfielder to leave next summer, when his contract expires.
With his dodgy knees, that make playing three games in a week a tough ask, and rumoured high salary, he seems ripe for the chop but there was news on Wednesday from Norway that talks have been ongoing about a contract extension via an interview with TV2
The key quote from this interview is about ongoing dialogue regarding a contract extension.
'I could have gone before, but I'm very well. We are in dialogue about extending, and we'll see what it's all about."
That refers to offers he has had that could`ve seen him leave. Currently wearing the Captain`s armband in place of the injured Ivo Pinto, he`s returned to the team alongside Tom Trybull and the combination is a winning one.
I would`ve previously been surprised to hear of these talks but I`m all for it.
Go on Alex, sign an extension, you know you want to because we all want you to.
