Gestede Red Card Overturned
Middlesbrough Striker, Rudy Gestede has won his appeal to have the red card he received in Saturday`s match with Norwich at Carrow Road overturned.
The big striker was shown a straight red in the 28th minute of City`s 1-0 victory for a lunge On Grant Hanley. He had already been shown a yellow when his high boot caught Alex Tettey in the head but the straight red meant a potential three match suspension, without a successful appeal.
A brief statement from the FA said: "Middlesbrough`s Rudy Gestede has successfully appealed his sending-off against Norwich City on Saturday.
"An Independent Regulatory Commission agreed it was not serious foul play and, therefore, the player will not serve any suspension."
To my mind, it was certainly a yellow card, if not really a straight red, so a one match ban would still have been triggered with the two yellows equalling red. The FA though have decided Gestede should not receive any suspension, which means they didn`t see the challenge as even a booking.
Oh for some consistency eh? Presumably a faceless panel have replayed the events time and again to come to this decision.
Never mind, it won`t affect Norwich, who have won both games against Middlesbrough this season 1-0.
