Norwich Linked With Palmer

Norwich City have been linked with a move for Chelsea starlet, Kasey Palmer according to the Daily Mirror and as reported here by the Bristol Post

The January transfer window is in its last throes and if I`m honest, I`d be surprised if this isn`t an older link that`s only just come to light.

The lad himself will be well known to Stuart Webber after Palmer joined Huddersfield Town`s promotion effort last season, making 25 appearances and scoring 5 goals along the way, despite missing four months of that season through injury. He had also signed up for another loan season with the Terriers this term but a serious hamstring injury just four games in, saw the loan cut short and the player return to Chelsea.

He`s now reportedly available for a Championship loan with Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Norwich all credited with an interest.

Presumably because of the Webber connection, the Canaries are being touted as in the box seat for his signature.

In terms of that though, I wonder if we need another centre attacking midfielder?

The reason I say that is that we already have the Championship`s best, in-form number ten in James Maddison, assuming we hang onto him for another 48 hours. We also have the best number ten in this league of the last decade in Wes Hoolahan, we`ve also signed Marcus Edwards from Spurs and last Friday, we signed Moritz Leitner who not so long ago was being touted as "Germany`s next number ten" by the German football media.

Leitner comes with huge potential that`s been unfulfilled in the last couple of years and I wanted to know more about him, so I tweeted a BVB based journalist named Lars Pollman that I started following after we signed Daniel Farke - he broke the story.

Pollman replied that Leitner was good enough to play Champions League football if he gets his head right, something that Farke should help with.

So do we really need Kasey Palmer, if all those above mentioned stay into February? I`d say not but, I don`t know everything that`s going on behind the scenes.

Perhaps he was mentioned prior to Edwards and Leitner arriving or perhaps he`s being lined up to replace Maddison (on loan) if a mega offer comes in. Incidentally, the Bristol Post also say that West Ham have had an £18m bid rejected for Tom Cairney by Fulham - take note Mr Webber.

We`ll know in less than 48 hours.

DF probably thinking 'I need more British players'. He can't afford to let Raggett or Maddison go as he will have to then go to the reserves

James Maddison is going nowhere. Given the current “home grown quota”, Webber should demand in excess of 25m pounds for the young English player. Bigger clubs are bringing in more established players and prefer to strengthen the squad instead of signing someone who is developing and unproven in the top tier, especially for so much money. Maybe West Ham would, but it would be extremely foolish for Maddison to join the hapless David Moyes (whom I see as an older Alex Neil).
