Norwich Favourites To Sign Middlesbrough Striker
Norwich City are favourites to sign Middlesbrough Striker Ashley Fletcher, according to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday 21st January.
The 22 year old is 6`1" tall and fairly quick and he cost 'Boro around £6m last summer, arriving in blaze of publicity from West Ham, where he was unable to break into the first team regularly, making 16 appearances in 2016/17.
Prior to that he was at Manchester United from age 13, before being loaned to Barnsley in 2016, where he made 27 appearances and scored 9 goals, which is what seemingly persuaded the Hammers to move for him.
Middlesbrough signed him just a year later as Garry Monk also brought in Britt Assombalonga but with Monk now gone and Tony Pulis in charge at The Riverside, it seems he could be available for a loan.
Pulis has given Fletcher just 11 minutes of football since taking over from Monk and prior to that he only started three matches under Monk, although he was a fairly regular substitute with 19 appearances and 2 goals this season.
At £6m just last summer, there is no way we will be able to afford to buy this lad, unless 'Boro are prepared to lose a lot of money and drop the price considerably, and I just can`t see that happening.
So a loan move it will be, if anything. Leeds and Barnsley are also said to be interested.
Value for money is rarely achieved in January transfers, so maybe this is seen as a stop gap to get us through to the summer when there will be a lot more options available.
At this point, I`d definitely take Ashley Fletcher at Norwich.
