Norwich Accept Pritchard Offer?

Norwich City have accepted an offer for Alex Pritchard from Huddersfield, Vital Norwich understands and the player is now sorting out his own personal terms before moving back to the Premier League.

If you read Vital Norwich, then you will know that I never claim to be in the know but on this occasion, this is what I am hearing.

It seems clear to me that Pritchard was only ever going to be using Norwich as a stepping stone to get where he wanted to go, which was of course the Premier League. He was always going to struggle to get into the Spurs first team and acknowledged that he needed to move away from White Hart Lane to kick start his career again.

The figure of £11m has been bandied around quite a lot over the last 24 hours and I`m not hearing that the fee is any different to that reported.

It`ll be a shame to lose such a talented player but there is no such thing as loyalty and it seems that Alex would rather swap mid-table Championship mediocrity for a potential Premier League relegation battle.

Always worrying to join a team in January window who are likely to be involved in relegation scrap. Do not do it.

Seems like he wants to go...

Then he must be desperate.

It may be a good sale. While Pritchard is technically very good, he lacked a certain level of physicality. In addition, while the perfect scenario is a Maddison-Pritchard combo that rolls every Championship team over, this may not be the reality given he is rather injury prone. Personally I attribute the good results this season to the Tetty-Trybull partnership more than the individual brilliance of Pritchard. Good luck to him.

It will not be a good sale as if like Murphy the proceeds are used to prop up the lack of premier league income and refusal sell club by Smiffs.

How can selling one of your very best players be seen as a good sale ? What is crucial is to get to the Premier League and sales like this make that likelihood even more remote

It’s a good sale because like it or not, Delia is not selling the club (and no one has expressed interest). The inevitable financial shortcomings next season coupled with Pritchard’s injury prone history (if we don’t sell we can’t play him every game) meant this sale is not that bad after all. And what’s the point of keeping someone who wanted to LEAVE?

Of course a player will go if they want to. However it is a big loss and there will not be an adequate replacement. I cannot say many more times that the selling off players for a profit of £ 4 million or so will not balance the shortfall caused by the unnecessary relegation from premier league. The profit will not be spent on a replacement and the squad will get even weaker. Smiffs have to sell and saying they will not do so and intend to give club to Nepotism Tom is not a good way of attracting interest. If they do not sell we are destined for league 1 and they will have a ground half empty with popcorn munching families happy to accept mediocrity.
