The Norwich City Gen

You may have read a report in the Independent this morning about how the Norwich City dressing room is on the verge of 'mutiny' at the Head Coach's intensive training methods and that the players are being overworked.

That didn't seem to ring true to me and I decided to hold off reporting anything until Daniel Farke had spoken at Colney this lunchtime.

As I expected, Farke dismissed the story, as did Alex Pritchard, as being inaccurate. Pritchard said 'it's not true' and added that he had no issues with how the team are being trained when speaking to the media, as reported by The Pink 'In

Farke said that the players were not being overworked and that he would describe the atmosphere in the dressing room as 'outstanding' and he would expect his players to say the same.

It may be that there's no smoke without fire but certainly Alex Pritchard and James Maddison haven't let anything negative slip in recent weeks.

Getting back to team news, City will be without both Wes Hoolahan (hip/groin) and Cameron Jerome (back) for the visit of Brentford.

Both are described as fairly short term injuries by Farke, which is the same for James Husband, who has suffered a slight set back. That does though, mean that the prospect of Jamal Lewis making his first team debut it edging nearer and Farke said he could be in the squad tomorrow.

There's good news for Ivo Pinto though, with the Captain fully fit and available after concerns over a hamstring at Leeds.

Farke also spoke about Steven Naismith and his return to full fitness, as well as his recent comments about needing to play regularly and possibly looking to move on in January.

Farke said he has had no financial pressure from the board to move him on or play him or not play him. I imagine though that selling or loaning out the rumoured to be, highest paid player at the club could only help financially.

We'll see.

I'm assuming Farkes description of a weeks training is correct. That's hardly intensive is it? I trained harder as a rugby player sub national division 3 level. I also had a full time job, and was expected to put in 25+ road miles a week. Remember superstars on BBC1? Footballers were always woefully short of overall fitness. Seems little has changed. These men should be athletes, they should want to be the best. I can think of so few examples of this in the professional game. Maximum money for minimum effort seems the only ambition.

My lad recently went to a training session at Colney with his U12 team as their Xmas present from his coach and it was very interesting. The coach who took the session said that the players are there virtually all day and not just training, there are daily medical tests as well as gym work etc. It struck me that they don’t get a huge amount of time off as is perceived by the majority of fans. They certainly don’t just drop in for a couple of hours...
