A Norwich Team To Beat Barnsley

A Norwich Team To Beat Barnsley

Finally, after the international break, league football returns today.

I have to say that the England side that Gareth Southgate put out against Germany and Brazil (mostly due to circumstance) was a little more interesting than usual. They performed pretty well and there were some fine individual performances from the likes of Pickford and Gomez over the two games.

Getting back to Norfolk though, Daniel Farke`s men desperately need to get back to winning ways this afternoon against a Barnsley side that have lost just once in their last six games.

As has become the norm, I`m going to give you a team that I think will be capable of beating the Tykes today.

I would change the formation today, if I was in Farke`s position and go back to a 4-1-4-1, the formation that served him so well with Dortmund last season.

Our major problem has been scoring goals and moving the ball quickly enough in general to open teams up. I like the style of play that we currently employ and the likes of Man City and Barca play it brilliantly, but crucially, they play the ball quickly.

So here`s my XI for today:

Gunn

Pinto (c)
Hanley
Klose
Husband

Trybull

Wildschut
Stiepermann
Maddison
Murphy

Oliveira

The only real personnel differences are going to be Hanley in defence and Stiepermann in midfield.

Grant Hanley was the big summer signing and has waited patiently for his chance. I just feel that Christoph Zimmermann has made a couple of errors lately that suggest to me that Hanley should replace him and be given the chance to form a partnership with Timm Klose.

The other surprise is Marco Stiepermann in midfield alongside James Maddison (who is first name on the team sheet). I think we`ve forgotten that Stiepermann is actually a midfield player and he would give us some steel in there to help Super Tommy Trybull when needed and offer a threat going forward.

With regard to Maddison, there is a slight injury worry over his hamstring and if he can`t make it, I`d play Wes Hoolahan there instead.

Nelson Oliveira`s return to fitness is good news and he starts for me, with Jerome coming on later if Nelson runs out of puff.

There are two wingers as well, not one winger and a central midfield player on the opposite flank. Pace kills and Yanic and Josh have it in spades, this formation change is basically an attempt to create more chances because that`s been our downfall of late. Only winning games by the odd goal means there`s extra pressure on the defence to be perfect for 90 minutes, something that is rarely possible for any team.

So, that`s my XI. I`m not sure that Daniel Farke will want to change formation or not. He did it once before to try to shore things up after the Millwall defeat and it worked, so maybe, but he might see my choices as something of a knee jerk reaction.

We`ll see at 2pm this avo.
