Bolton v Norwich Game Day

Bolton v Norwich Game Day

Norwich City return to action this afternoon as they take on Bolton Wanderers.

It`s almost a relief to be away from Carrow Road, which is a strange thing to say as home has been our fortress over the last few years.

Suffering two home defeats in a row, albeit against a good side and a very good side, was a bit of a shock to the system and shows how far we have to go to be a top two side in this league.

From what I`ve seen so far, Wolves look to be head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in this league, at the moment. I`ve not watched Cardiff play but Neil Warnock has clearly got things ticking there too.

The performance against Wolves was best described as "below par" when compared to the high standards of recent weeks. Even the usually reliable Tom Trybull gave the ball away a couple of times.

Against Wolves, City were overly reliant on James Maddison and he also looked a little jaded. The return of Alex Pritchard cannot come soon enough.

The team look as though they need some zip in their step and to my mind, Yanic Wildschut needs to start today. His direct play and energy were missed, with Josh Murphy offering very little against the Wolves.

Wes Hoolahan is another who could return but with Maddison in international call up form, Wes would have to play on the left or right as the central position currently belongs to Madders.

Bringing Wes back and dropping Mario Vrancic would be worth doing because Mario was far from super on Tuesday. I saw him fail to compete for a header in the second half and that annoyed me. I`m not just jumping on the bandwagon, because he is a technically gifted player, he just needs to up his workrate and stick his foot in.

Football fans will put up with a lot from their team`s players. Nightclubbing, extra marital affairs, even arrests - as long as they make it happen on the pitch. Trying your hardest and looking like it, is the bare minimum, Mario.

The return of Cameron Jerome is a given after the failure of the "Watkins up front" experiment and again, the lack of any other senior options is very concerning. How much longer before Daniel Farke looks at the U23s and summons Fonkeu or Abraham?

With the international break looming, a positive performance and hopefully a victory are required to get the ship back on an even keel (an analogy that Timm Klose might like).

If you`re going, have a great day and sing your hearts out to see the boys over the line.

With tired Trybull and Maddison, and the toothless Jerome, a point will be a good return.

Goal scoring machine Jer1m0 has had 939 minutes on pitch in league games for his one goal. What a strike rate. Oh well never mind he does work hard.
