Holt & Lappin Sign For King`s Lynn

Holt & Lappin Sign For King`s Lynn

Well, thank god that the International break is almost over.

These two week breaks are always a dull experience for me, I`d much rather prefer to watch Norwich City than I would England and last night`s dreadful 0-1 win by over Lithuania proved the point again.

I still watch most England internationals but last night`s was turgid. The atmosphere was non-existent and it almost seemed like a friendly. I accept that the match was a dead rubber but even so.

Anyway, I digress.

The big news today concerns club legend, Grant Holt and the King of Spain, Simon Lappin who have both signed for Kings Lynn today.

Yes, you read that correctly. They`ve both signed for the Linnets.

Holt, 36 has been without a club since leaving Hibernian at the end of last season, having scored 7 goals in 37 appearances as Hibs won promotion to the SPL. He is of course, a bone fide Norwich City legend and I can confidently say, my favourite ever Norwich player. He won the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy three season in a row, the only player to ever do that, as City won consecutive promotions under Paul Lambert to reach the Premier League. His scoring tally of 78 goals in 168 games over four seasons stands up next to anybody`s.

Lappin, 34 meanwhile has become something of a cult hero, signed from St. Mirren by Peter Grant and making 126 City appearances as a left sided midfielder or left full back and scoring 4 goals. Lappin ended his professional career at York City last season, making 7 appearances before rupturing an Achilles tendon last March. He has been a regular alongside Chris Goreham on Radio Norfolk match day commentary and joined Holt in moving to live in Norfolk.

Kings Lynn have been quite ambitious under Chairman Stephen Cleeve who appointed another former Canary, Ian Culverhouse as manager towards the end of last season. Culverhouse has overseen a decent start to the season that sees Lynn in fourth place in the Bostik Southern League Premier Division. They have seven wins, two defeats and a draw from their opening ten games.

These two signings are likely to be a big shot in the arm to the Linnets` squad and there will be plenty of defenders who will be looking to put one over on Holty. Mind you, knowing his love for the combative side of the game, I don`t expect that will hold any fears for the big man.

This could be the answer to the International breaks that I`ve been looking for. If City aren`t playing, you`ll find me at The Walks.

Good new that Holty is playing for a Norfolk team again. Good news if it stops Lappin being on RN.
