Matthews Signs New Norwich Contract

Matthews Signs New Norwich Contract

Remi Matthews has signed a new contract until 2019, with an option in the club's favour at his boyhood club, Norwich City have announced on their official website

Remi came through the club's academy, although he is yet to make a senior appearance, and has clearly caught the eye of Daniel Farke.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk, Matthews said: 'It's nice to still be at the club, and to sign a new contract at a club where I want to be.

'I've been here for a long time now so I'm delighted. The boss has seen something in me to give me a new deal and I've got to get my head down.

'I'll keep working hard and keep going from there. That's all I can do. I want to train hard and show that I am good enough if called upon to make the step up.'

Head Coach Daniel Farke added: 'I am really happy with this news.

'Remi is still young as a goalkeeper and has a lot of potential. He has faced a lot of competition this season but has a brilliant character and a great working attitude.

'In the last period he was improved week-to-week and when he continues with this attitude we will have a lot of joy with him in our future.'

It's always good to have young players make the grade, although it remains to be seen if Remi can get an opportunity to show his worth for the first team. Two appearances on the substitute bench suggest that Farke has him in mind, so he may have to wait for either a dip in form or (even worse) an injury to Angus Gunn.

He's in the right place though and under the coach's watchful eye. Fingers crossed it works out for him.
