Brentford 1 - 3 Norwich City
Norwich City had a comfortable night as they beat Brentford 1-3 at Griffin Park in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup.
Daniel Farke takes this competition very seriously and he has played a strong team in both of the previous rounds, this squad was no different.
Farke made five changes with Maddison, Stiepermann, Tettey, Wildschut and Jerome making way for Husband, Reed, Hoolahan, Watkins and Vrancic.
However, all of those rested, apart from Maddison, were present and correct on the bench, along with a first team bench appearance for Adam Phillips from the U23 squad.
It was Vrancic who opened the scoring with just 10 minutes on the clock after Marley Watkins was fouled in the Brentford area by Chris Mepham. Super Mario stepped up and slotted a cool penalty with his left foot.
The scores should've been level though on 29 minutes, when Kamohelo Mokotjo (that's some handle) was caught by a lunging Christoph Zimmermann in the Norwich area and the ref pointed to the spot.
Defender, Yoann Barbet stepped up and fired a shot, that's probably still rising, well over the bar, much to the delight of the travelling Canaries.
The score remained 0-1 at half time before Vrancic doubled City's lead on 51 minutes with a sweet free kick from 20 yards with his favoured left foot.
That put Norwich well and truly in the driving seat and Josh Murphy scored a third on 68 minutes with a great run onto a Trybull through ball and a dink over the keeper. That effectively sealed the win, although there was still time for Josh Clarke to grab a consolation goal in the 91st minute for the Bees.
It was of course, too little too late and Norwich ended up as fairly comfortable winners, earning themselves a place in the last 16 of the competition.
That's Norwich City's third win in four games and only the first goal that Angus Gunn has conceded in that time. It looks like we might be on to something here.
The draw for the fourth round is on Wednesday at some point, probably in the middle of the night and probably somewhere in Asia!
