Norwich v Charlton Team News
Norwich City will have to do without Nelson Oliveira for tomorrow night`s Carabao Cup tie with Charlton at Carrow Road (7.45pm) as the in-form striker is still struggling with the groin problem that saw him start (and score) from the bench against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Talking to the assembled media on Monday from Colney, Norwich Head Coach Daniel Farke provided an update on the fitness of his squad and the likely make up of some of his team for this second round tie.
Much to the anger of many City fans, Oliveira was only on the bench for the trip to Villa Park and even though Farke explained the groin problem afterwards, plenty of City fans still seem to be unaware of the problem, instead happier to criticise Farke.
Anyway, Nelson won`t be involved against Charlton as he is being rested and he may not make the trip to Millwall either. That means someone else will have to play up top and the obvious choice would be Cameron Jerome, however, Cam also has a slight groin strain but Farke is hopeful he will be fit.
What this does signal is that Norwich cannot go through the season (in my opinion) with just these two recognised strikers. Oliveira is clearly the first choice of most City fans but he did suffer with injuries last season. If we lose him for any length of time we could be in trouble. Marley Watkins could fill in but having seen him play, I don`t think that is his position other than in an absolute emergency or when chasing a game.
With just over a week to go in the transfer window, I`m hoping Farke and Stuart Webber can come up with a new addition.
On the plus side, Ivo Pinto has recovered from the back injury and cramp he suffered against QPR and looks set to return to the side. Timm Klose has also returned to training this week and could be fit for Millwall, assuming he comes through a full week`s training with no set backs.
With Marcel Franke and Christoph Zimmermann struggling in the centre thus far, they could do with some experienced help and Timm should be that man.
Farke also says that new midfielder, Tom Trybull could well be an option for the cup game as his fitness levels are on the rise and the coach looks to rest some of his players after a hectic start to the season that has already seen City play 5 games in 14 days with this game making it 6 in 17.
The pace has been relentless and it`s making our squad look a little threadbare.
