Aston Villa v Norwich

Norwich City face Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon (3pm) with their hosts under no small amount of pressure.

A turgid start to the season has seen Steve Bruce`s men lose two and draw one of their opening three games with the natives already getting restless and a few already calling for the former Norwich defender to be fired.

Norwich managed their first win of the season with a decent performance against QPR in midweek, so it would seem a good time to be visiting Villa Park.

However, it`s not been the happiest of hunting grounds for City, especially in recent times and despite some injuries to key men for the hosts, it`s likely to be a tough game as usual.

Midfielder, Mile Jedinak is back in contention to make his first start of the season after a minor operation over the summer and he has reportedly trained this last week without issue.

It`s worth noting that Villa have yet to win a game since his arrival from Crystal Palace, this time last year, without him in the side.

Winger Ahmed Elmohamady is also in contention despite needing 33 stitches in his lip after colliding with Cardiff keeper, Neil Etheridge last Saturday. He has apparently trained all week but a late assessment will be made by medical staff as to whether he can play against Norwich.

Scott Hogan had to be subbed off after just 30 minutes in the Tuesday defeat at Reading but he has received injections in his troublesome ankle and will also be a late call. With Jonathan Kodjia out with a broken ankle and Jack Grealish suffering with kidney issues, Villa will hope Jedinak, Elmohamady and Hogan can make it.

Meanwhile Norwich will probably need to make changes for the game as they play less than 72 hours after facing QPR on Wednesday night.

Ivo Pinto struggled with cramp in the last 30 minutes against QPR but seems likely to at least travel to the midlands with the squad, if not start the game.

Whether Wes Hoolahan can play another game so quickly is a big question but Marco Stiepermann could come into contention, along with Marley Watkins, Steven Naismith and Yanic Wildschut.

There is bad news for Jamal Lewis though, with the young left back being ruled out for the next four months after an operation. That`s a real blow because the lad was probably pushing for a first team spot after a very good looking pre-season. On the plus side, Harry Toffolo got 45 minutes in for the development side in the week and is going to be back fully fit soon. You can read all about that via Daniel Farke and here
