Holt Uncertain Of Next Move
Norwich City legend (I don't use the word lightly), Grant Holt has just been told that he won't be offered a contract extension with Hibernian, having just helped them to promotion to the SPL.
Holt played 37 games and scored 7 goals, winning another medal to add to his collection in the process.
What next for the big man though?
Holt is a player that, in my opinion, was instrumental in metaphorically grabbing Norwich City by the scruff of the neck and dragging them with him to the Premier League. Paul Lambert arrived at the right time, just after season tickets were thrown at poor old Gunny and found his predecessor had signed a leader and striker at the peak of his powers.
The rest is history.
This morning, you can read all about Holty's next moves in an excellent interview with Michael Bailey in the EDP
Having completed his A Licence, coaching is a serious option for Holty, so we can only hope that the hierarchy realise the value of having an ex-player around that achieved so much in recent times is considered valuable.
Imagine having someone like Grant Holt instilling a will to win in you and instructing you have to behave and play the game, if you were in the academy.
Coaching at Norwich, is of course, something that has crossed his mind.
"I`d be foolish to say I didn`t want to come back to Norwich and do coaching, because this is where I live," Holt said.
"Everyone knows I enjoy being here, my family does. I do the ambassador stuff with the club and the Community Sports Foundation, and I enjoy trying to give back. This club was good to me and I hope people think I was good for it. So it`s nice to come back and try to help out.
"So yes, you`d like to be involved at some point. I`m not sure at the moment there are any jobs there that are right for me, but that`s up to them to have their own structure - and at the moment, I think they have probably got more important things to worry about than whether Grant Holt can have a job.
"They`ll sort their stuff and then I`ll do my stuff, and we`ll see where we are next year. I`m just going to take it as it comes.
"If they offer me something then I`ll sit down and speak with them. And if they don`t then we`ll see what happens in the future."
There may not be a suitable job available at the moment but this is the type of character that I think we should be employing. Having met him, I've had a little time to gauge him as a person and I think he'd be great for us.
