Adieu To Seb Bassong

Adieu To Seb Bassong

Seb Bassong has written a letter to say goodbye to the Norwich City fans as his contract runs down and he prepares to leave the club.

The 30 year old central defender has been at the club for five years and won the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy in his debut season 2012.

He will forever be remembered for both his 'tank runs' forward out of defence and his dawdling on the ball, when all we wanted him to do was get rid of it.

After Chris Hughton left the club, big Seb had a rumoured training ground fall out with the next incumbent of the manager's hot seat, Neil Adams. That led to a loan spell at Watford before coming in from the cold under Alex Neil and playing a big part in the promotion season under Neil.

Back in the Premier League, Seb continued to dawdle on the ball and I particularly remember him allowing Wayne Rooney to win the ball, when all he needed to do was clear it, in the move that led to the costly 0-1 defeat to Manchester United at Carrow Road. I also remember his scorching last minute strike to make it 4-4 against Liverpool before Adam Lallana broke our hearts.

He only made 13 appearances last season but reading his letter, it's clear the affection he had for the club and it's fans.

Whatever else happens, if Seb Bassong ever returns to Carrow Road such generous and good humoured words means he deserves the biggest cheer. Having read that I now feel a bit guilty for giving him such flak! Showed himself to be a class act, good luck to him going forward OTBC
