Ricky Martin Statement

This was an outcome first suggested by Vital Norwich a week ago and one that most City fans will no doubt welcome.

The club`s new Sporting Director, Stuart Webber has hit the ground running and wasted no time in clearing out those that he doesn`t feel can help him in his rather large re-building job at Carrow Road. The bottom line here is that if Mr Webber rated Martin, Darnborough and Spearing then he wouldn`t have sacked them and let`s be clear - that`s basically what has happened. Failure cannot be rewarded in any line of work, unless you`re a politician of course, and the terrible legacy of the failed recruitment of the past two years tells it`s own story.

Darnborough should never have been appointed in the first place after rather publically failing in a similar role at Burnley. In early 2015, an email, supposedly sent by Darnborough was made public. It showed his failure to recruit for Sean Dyche`s relegation battle in which he pretty much begged for any available players with numerous agents as the January deadline approached.

Former player, Spearing re-joined the club to work with Darnborough in April 2016 and presided over the last two appalling transfer windows. Martin meanwhile has held a number of different roles and had a somewhat meteoric rise to "Technical Director" in the summer of 2014.

This is very good news and a promising, decisive start to his new job by Stuart Webber. He will probably appoint his own staff in the very near future, let`s hope that the new staff have more of a positive impact than the last lot.
