Rowett And Warburton Have New Jobs

Rowett And Warburton Have New Jobs

In case you missed it, Derby County have announced the appointment of Gary Rowett as their new manager at around 7am this morning.

Rowett has been out of work since being sacked by Birmingham City last autumn and as an ex-Derby player was always favourite to take over at Pride Park.

Also, Nottingham Forest have just announced that they have appointed ex-Rangers and Brentford boss, Mark Warburton as their new manager.

Both men were highly regarded by many City supporters and the poll we`ve been running on Vital Norwich had Rowett as clear favourite among readers on 40% with Warburton as third favourite with 11% behind second placed Alan Pardew on 27%.

Basically it's Hodgson for us.

They must have been targets for any club serious about promotion and our board sat and watched and did nothing.

Thing is Drayton, our board may well have targets, we just don't know them. For example, they are talking about lots of structural changes, that suggests to me a head coach and a director of football set up. I think most fans liked the idea of Warburton or Rowett (i sure did) but it may be those guys were never even considered. Just because stuff is reported means nothing. Unless it comes from a direct quote for the club then the rest is total speculation. For my tuppeny worth I reckon it'll be Hodgson with a coach, possibly someone he knows or has worked with before. Whatever does happen I hope we find out soon.

I am just going on their usual slow reactions, lack of a plan & football knowledge and history of getting things badly wrong on many occasions. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

Funny how Rowett been out of a job most of the season, Warburton for a couple of months and then we sack our manager and boom they both get new jobs. I am sure their respected agents must have put out the feelers to these clubs to say 'if Norwich come calling we will go and have an interview'. I think the thinking of Roy with a young head coach as an apprentice type could be the way they go. Maybe even a former player. Remember a few seasons ago we had people suggesting Malky and Hoddle their names not even coming up now

Were either of these two really such great candidates? Rowitt did ok with Brum but what else has he achieved? Hoots did the same. Had previously been a success and has been since. Only at Norwich interestingly has he been poor. Meanwhile Warburton did fine with Brentford, but hardly set the world alight in Scotland. One hit wonders comes to mind. Like Lambert who has been noticeably sub standard since his departure. I'm not sure of the merits of the coach/Director of football approach. Which clubs have recorded success with it? And how many top clubs still use it?
