Cole To Villa Suggests Lambert's Given Up On Wes

Here's a little snippet from The Daily Mail that on it's own means very little but if you look at the bigger picture it might be a bonus for Norwich.

The Mail reports that Joe Cole has passed a medical at Aston Villa and is about to sign a two year contract at Villa Park.

Cole is 32 and was released by West Ham at the end of last season and would be signing as a free agent - right up Randy Lerner's street.

Cole was apparently unhappy at being used as a winger rather than in his favoured central position by Sam Allardyce and it's suggested that this is where Paul Lambert would use him.

Lambert's pursuit of Wes Hoolahan turned into a bigger saga than City's pursuit of Gary Hooper but it seems to me that having signed Joe Cole (or a number ten, as he calls them), he will be unlikely to still chase Hoolahan.

Just a thought, might be totally wrong, what do you reckon? The picture I found for Cole shows him in an England shirt. Remember those days? When Joe Cole used to be a good player. He lost his mojo when he moved to Liverpool and don't think he's found it since. Perhaps it's in front of The Holte End...

Or was wez one of the early ones to throw his hat in the ring and say. I'm staying?

you can't apply normal logic to Villa or Lambert (however did he do well for you guys, he's woeful!?) I'm afraid. So not sure that your sums add up that our chase for Wes is over. Our midfield is truly awful, so if cheap enough he might well still try.
The Fear
On paper we should have no room for him now, so logically it makes sense. But as Fear has alluded to, logic is not our strong point; plus our 'creative' players look like this - Jack Grealish: huge potential, needs to be in and around the first team this season, but still a teenager; Charles N'Zogbia: didn't play last season due to being 'injured' (hmm); Joe Cole: his injury record suggests he won't be available for about half the season. So I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

ps good luck for next season

Cheers Sheriff, best of luck to you guys as well. With the club up for sale, I suspect it'll be a tough one.
