Rudd Will Not Return To Preston
I spotted this little snippet on Sky Sports yesterday and while Preston North End signing a new goal keeper wouldn't normally spark my interest, in this case it means something to Norwich City.
Declan Rudd has been loaned to PNE for the last two seasons, during which time he has matured into a very good, young 'keeper.
Preston manager, Simon Grayson made no secret of his admiration for Rudd at the end of last season but expressed doubts as to whether he was within the club's reach. Preston narrowly lost out in the play offs to Rotherham and Drew the first leg 1-1 with Rudd making an awesome save in the last minute of that first game to keep the scores level.
After Norwich City's relegation to The Championship and with Mark Bunn out of contract and yet to be offered a new one, the return of Rudd is timely and he seems likely to be the number two behind John Ruddy, assuming City can keep hold of their number one goal keeper.
Yesterday, PNE announced the signing of Jamie Jones from Leyton Orient to permanently fill the goal keeping position at Deepdale. Without saying as much this confirms that Rudd was not available to them for a third season in a row.
City have a long history of finding/producing good keepers and that looks set to continue with Declan Rudd.
