Ruddy: We Are Going To Give It Our All

City keeper, John Ruddy has been talking to TalkSport about his disappointment at missing out on a place in the England World Cup squad but intends to prove Roy Hodgson was wrong to leave him out in the best possible way - by helping Norwich back to the premier League.

"I was disappointed to miss out on the World Cup but I`m more determined than ever now to make sure I prove to people why I feel I should have gone, and hopefully we can do that by getting promoted," said Ruddy.

"We know how tough it`s going to be. We`ve been in there before and it`s a tremendously tough league to get out of. But we are going to give it our all and like I said, as long as we can keep developing as a squad and as a club, we should be fine."

Ruddy thinks that City's new signing, Lewis Grabban should give Neil Adams more firepower and if they can keep the majority of the squad together then they should be competitive at the top end of the table.

"I think so - I think the club is in a fantastic position," added Ruddy. "We`re debt-free, which hardly any club in England can say about themselves. And we`ve obviously made strides to improve the squad as well by signing Lewis Grabban. He scored 20-odd goals in the Championship last season, so if he can bring that to our squad…

"I think that was probably the one area we were missing last year, which was just putting the ball in the back of the net."

It wasn't just the goal scoring that was a problem though. We let in a lot of goals too, although I think I'm right in saying that JR kept 11 clean sheets last term.

The defence will need to tighten up as well but keeping Ruddy will be a big statement of intent should any of the big Premier League sides come knocking. Last summer, City fended off a couple of bids from Chelsea for Ruddy with the highest offer believed to have been around £6m.

Today I read that Arsenal have been knocked back with an initial bid of £6m for Cardiff's David Marshall - knowing his past record, I'm sure he'll be anxious to move on and let's hope that Arsenal come back with an improved bid, rather than turn to JR.
