Martin: 'We Haven't Been Good Enough'

Norwich City Captain, Russell Martin has been talking to canaries.co.uk and, as you'd expect, has been frank and honest in his assessment of the season.

When asked to give his opinion on how the squad are feeling, he said:

"Extreme disappointment. A bit angry, a bit dejected obviously, but it`s disappointing more than anything for the football Club, for the fans, for ourselves and in ourselves," he said.

"We haven`t been good enough for long enough parts of the season. It`s not been about these four games - people keep saying that, it`s about the course of the season.

"We`ve played 37 games so far and we are where we are. People say the table doesn`t lie, so now we`ve gone."

Martin also believes that big changes need to be made in what will be a big summer for the club.

"There needs to be changes. We`ve lost too many games this season, and that becomes almost a culture and that needs to change," he added.

"In my opinion it`s a massive summer for the football club, because whatever happens there will have to be a decision made on the manager and then the recruitment of players.

"We need to go back to the Championship, and then bounce back to where we belong, and I believe we belong in the Premier League as a football club.

"You have a choice as a player to either wallow in self-pity and feel sorry for yourself, or you have a choice to say 'right, this has happened` and you learn from it and grow from it."

I've met Martin a couple of times and have always found him to be a very decent bloke. He will definitely need to stay and I know that he loves the club and area in general. We could also do with the 'Norfolk Cafu' having a few of those barn storming runs that summed up his Championship promotion season.
