Former Norwich City striker, Craig Bellamy has spoken of the gratitude he feels towards Norwich City for helping him in the formative years of his career.
Bellers was part of the City squad between 1996 and 2000 and in his final couple of seasons with City, formed a great "little & large" partnership with City legend, Iwan Roberts.
His goal scoring prowess saw him sold to Gordon Strachan`s Coventry City for a then club record of £6m. This was just the start with the 34 year old then moving on to have spells with Newcastle, Liverpool (twice), Manchester City, West Ham, Blackburn Rovers and Celtic before moving to his hometown club of Cardiff City - our opponents this weekend.
Bellamy spoke to Wales Online and said: 'I loved Norwich and will always be grateful to them for everything they did for me, everything they taught me and the patience they showed, I was schooled right in a terrific club and had terrific professionals around me."
'Maybe if the club had been pressing for promotion, first-team appearances for somebody like me would have been limited. But Norwich had been plunged into a financial crisis as the club tried to adapt to no longer being in the Premier League.
'The result was that young lads like me were given a chance. I would probably not have had such a good career if it had not been for that experience with Norwich. I would not have developed into the player I became if I had been stuck in the reserves at a club where it was impossible for a kid to force his way into the first team.'
Bellamy made 73 appearances for his country and also was a part of the Great Britain Olympic Team at London 2012.
He was a great player for Norwich and it was just a pity that we couldn`t have kept hold of him a little longer, I`ll always remember him scoring in the one nil victory at Portman Road in 2008. However, money talks and that offer was just too big to turn down at the time.
Despite courting more than his fair share of controversy, he has also set up The Craig Bellamy Foundation for disadvantaged children in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
According to various sources, Bellers has put in over £1m of his own money into the Foundation and made regular visits to the war torn country.
Well done son.
