McNally teased us this morning and the club gave the game away an hour ago but now the news has finally broken that Leroy Fer has signed for Norwich City, pending international clearance.
The transfer of the 23 year old from FC Twente has confirmed, utterly, how seriously Norwich are now being taken in this window with a series of high profile signings including Dutch international Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, England under-21 international, Nathan Redmond, Swedish international, Martin Olsson, Carlo Nash from Stoke and Javier Garrido after his successful loan last season.
The long-time target of Everton, Fer is a monster of a midfielder, playing in central-mid for FC Twente and the Netherlands. He has signed a four year contract for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be around £6m.
The signing will hardly come as a surprise with a photo of Fer eating in Yellows restaurant in Carrow Road on Wednesday last week and the only surprise was the time it took to announce the signing, with rumours circulating on social media that Fer may have failed his medical. The exact same situation which scuppered a move to Everton in the January transfer window.
Fer will add some serious strength and bite to our midfield. He makes surging runs and is very much a box-to-box player, weighing in with a few quality goals to boot. He has scored 21 goals in 71 appearances for FC Twente.
Chris Hughton stated via the official club website: "We are really pleased to have acquired the signature of a player with the qualities that Leroy has.
"He`s a very versatile Dutch international and at 23 he has that pleasing balance of having acquired experience playing over 100 games in the Dutch League - but still having plenty of time ahead of him to continue his development as a player here with us at Norwich City."
This is one heck of a signing and a seriously decent bit of business for the club.
