Korey Smith Signs For Oldham

Korey Smith Signs For Oldham

Korey Smith has signed for Oldham Athletic in a two year deal that starts on July 1st.

22 year old Smith was released by City at the end of the season and has had no shortage of suitors.

Smith said: 'I had quite a few clubs interested in me and I was offered more money elsewhere.

'At the end of the day I have returned because I enjoyed living here and also enjoyed my football.

'I enjoyed my time here and the lads, manager and everybody around the club were quality.

'The manager (Lee Johnson) was, like me, a small midfield player and he has helped me and given me advice to improve my game.

'As he played in my position, he gives me freedom to express myself.'

Smith was well liked by us fans at Carrow Road and played a big part in the League One Promotion side as a young 18yr old, having been given his chance by Paul Lambert.

Sadly though, he struggled to make the move upwards as City climbed through the Leagues.

He spent time at Oldham on loan at the tail end of last season and jumped at the chance of a return having enjoyed himself so much.

The player said 'It is the start of a new adventure and I am looking forward to the challenge.

'I had been at Norwich for a long time and it will be exciting to play somewhere else.'

Smith also thinks that his new side face a big test in League One.

He said: 'I looked at the fixtures and there are some big names in the division.

'We have to make sure we don't play against names, but play our own game and hopefully give a decent account of ourselves.

'It looks as though we will again have a very young team which has pros and cons.

'Hopefully our young lads will be hungry to succeed and we can use their energy in a positive way.'

We wish you luck Korey, as I said, you were well thought of and known as a worker in the middle of the park. All the best fella...
