Bolton Wanderers 1 Norwich City 0
Barclays Premiership
19th March 2005

A spectacular strike from Stelios Giannakopoulos gave Bolton all three points the last the Canaries went to the Reebok Stadium.

Wanderers started the better of the two sides and went close early on through Stelios and Hierro, and when Jason Shackell and Adam Drury cleared attempts off the line it looked as though it was going to be a long evening for City supporters.

Damien Francis was unlucky with one effort that flew narrowly wide and a second which was well blocked by Hierro, but it was no surprise when Bolton took the lead three minutes before the break.

Stelios' corner was half cleared by Marc Edworthy, and the Greek winger took a touch before unleashing an unstoppable strike beyond the despairing dive of Robert Green and the lead would have been doubled moments later had Kevin Davies' shot not have rebounded off the bar.

A much-improved City performance in the second half failed to produce an equaliser, and the Trotters would have doubled their advantage but for a couple of impressive saves from Green in the City goal.

The result left the Canaries bottom of the Premiership table with eight games to play and a trip to Highbury to face Arsenal to follow, but next up after that was this happy, happy day against Manchester United to we'll gloss over that and show you this instead (try and ignore the terrible music if you can):
