Ward and Vaughan to miss season opener

Ward and Vaughan to miss season opener

City duo Elliott Ward an James Vaughan will miss the opening Barclays Premier League game of the season against Wigan through injury.

The pair picked up knee injuries during the team's trip to Germany earlier this month but boss Paul Lambert confirmed last night they are likely to be out of action for weeks rather than months.

"Wardy was huge for us last season but that is what happens,' he told the Pinkun. 'He has hurt his knee and we just have to go with it. We`re not talking a few months - hopefully he`ll be back soon.

"The same with James. It is a blow but that is why you have the squad and why we went out and brought players in during the summer because otherwise you can be left short. We have to get them back pretty quickly."
