Gill goes to Walsall

Gill goes to Walsall

Matthew Gill completed a hat-trick of departures this morning when the midfielder joined Walsall on loan.

Gill also spent time on loan at Peterborough before Christmas, and will go straight into the League One struggler's squad for tomorrow's game against Gill's former club Exeter, provided the relevant paperwork is filed in time.

Commenting on the move, new Walsall boss Dean Smith told the club's official site:

'He's a player that I have been aware of for a while. He's someone whose got energy, can keep the ball moving and will cover a lot of ground for us.

'He's an experienced lad who has played in something like 370 League games, so his understanding and know-how is going to be important for us in the matches that lie ahead.

'This is a position that needs strengthening and I am delighted to be able to bring in someone of Matt's calibre.'

Norfolk-born Gill joined City from the Grecians in June 2009 and has made 15 first team appearances for the club.
