Canaries set to miss out on cash windfall

The Canaries look set to miss out on a big cash windfall if, as reported in today`s News of the World, West Ham turn down an £18m bid from Tottenham for Dean Ashton.

Ashton signed for the Hammers in January 2006 for an initial fee of £7m, with City also due to receive 15% of any profit made on the former Crewe trainee.

If he were to sign for Spurs for £18m that would equate to £1.65m winging its way to the Carrow Road coffers, but West Ham`s chief executive Scott Duxbury is quoted in the NotW as saying:

"Hell would have to freeze over for us to sell Dean to a major rival.

"It would be no surprise to us if there are certain clubs who would be interested in him.

"But we worked very hard to put together a deal to keep Dean at the club and he remains a massive part of our ambitious plans."

18m does seem pretty high, but it seems like most players cost that in the Premier League these days!

Not worth £18m in 18m years. Benty went for £16.5, and he's twice the player Ashton is.
